Judy Grant

Judy Anderson Grant, 79, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 19, 2025, at the Madrid Nursing Home, following a battle with dementia. She was born on January 11, 1946, in Charles City, IA, to Charlotte Elliott and Lawrence Anderson.

Judy spent her early childhood in Floyd, Iowa. The family later lived in Largo, Florida, before returning to Iowa and settling in Odebolt. Eventually, they moved to Ankeny, where Judy entered 7th grade. After her junior year of high school, the family moved again to Sac City, Iowa, where she graduated in 1964.

She then attended the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, where she earned degrees in secondary education and library sciences.

Judy had a lifelong love of travel and languages. She studied abroad to enhance her Spanish and French, and brought her global experiences into the classroom during her teaching career in Las Vegas, Nevada, and later at Woodward-Granger in Iowa, where she retired as a librarian.

Together with her husband, Ron, Judy organized the Magnani Family Reunions and was an active member of the Vittoria Lodge. The couple enjoyed traveling across the United States, especially camping during their early years. A trip to Italy to visit Ron’s ancestral relatives sparked Judy’s interest in learning Italian, which she put to use on their subsequent trips to Italy. Their travels often included visits to vineyards and wineries, nurturing their shared appreciation for wine.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ron, and a sister-in-law of Culpepper, Virginia. She is survived by her brother, Elwood Anderson of Culpepper VA; two nieces, Jean (Stephen) Jarrell and Rebecca (LK) Strait, also of Culpepper; two grand-nephews, Dylan and Jacob Jarrell; her maternal first cousin, “Aunt” Barbra Seglam of Fertile, Iowa; along with many maternal second cousins with whom she was closer in age.
