David Gathercole

David Gathercole passed away December 4, 2022, at home in Arizona.

A memorial gathering was held from 4-6 p.m., Monday, December 12, 2022 at Sundberg-Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Madrid. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, December 13, 2022, also at the funeral home.

Dave was born March 8, 1944, to Howard and Mary Gathercole in Iowa City, IA. He was raised by Mary and Dick Ponx. He graduated from Saydel High School in 1962, joined the United States Navy and served until 1966. Dave started working for Firestone in 1966 and after 32 years, retired in 1999.

Dave and Phyllis (Jagerson) were married on February 7, 1986. They enjoyed a 36-year marriage where they spent their time - running their own business, Dave’s TV and Video, entertaining, hosting pool parties, going on vacations, playing cards, dancing, and showing their 1964 Ford Galaxy Convertible at car shows. Dave was a member of AMVETS and American Legion. He enjoyed gardening, golfing, biking, hiking, walking, camping, and boating – just about anything outdoors.

Dave is survived by his children; daughters, Mashelle Bollie of Granger, Julie (Bill) Sowder of San Tan Valley, AZ, and Jessica (Matt) Flannery of Tea, SD; sons, Chuck (Sheila) Gathercole of Des Moines and Mike (Nicole) Gathercole of Davenport; brother, Larry Gathercole of Des Moines and sister, Marylan Burgoyne of Tigard, OR; 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; along with many other relatives and close friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis; his parents and stepfather; two brothers, Charles and Tommy; and two sisters, Barb and Phyllis.
