Free Meals for All Students Ends with the 2021-2022 School Year
Madrid Community School District has been able to provide free breakfast and lunch for all of its students since the onset of COVID-19 in March of 2020. When the current school year ends, the funding provided by the federal government that allowed access to these meals will also end. In addition, the Madrid CSD will not be serving meals during the summer of 2022.
The Madrid School District will not qualify for funds that would enable us to serve these meals at no cost, as the number of students that qualify for free and reduced meals does not meet the required low income percentage.
● All families will need to carry a positive balance in their student’s meal account when school begins next fall if they plan to eat school meals. This decision may cause concern for some families, but there are measures you can take to help ease the burden.
● Budget for the cost of school meals if your student(s) does not qualify for free meals. At this time, the cost of breakfast is $1.90, and lunch is $2.90. The district has no plans to increase these charges for the upcoming year.
● Deposit money into your students meal account at any time to prepare for the next school year.
● Complete an application for free and reduced meals.
* If you complete an application by June 30th for the 2021-2022 school year and qualify, you are given a 30-day grace period at the start of 2022-2023 to complete a new application for the 2022-2023 school year.
* Complete and submit the 2022-2023 application, which will be available on our website after July 1, 2022. A new application must be completed each year.
