Douglas Nestor Nelson, 86

Douglas Nestor Nelson was born July 1, 1934 in Alston, Michigan and passed away March 15, 2021 at his home in Madrid, Iowa. 

Douglas had a successful career in sales for B.C McDonald and Satterlee, which took his family to Little Rock, AR, Omaha, NE, and finally Madrid, Iowa in 1977.  He enjoyed living on their acreage.  A wonderful guitar player, Douglas liked to play bluegrass music for his family.  He also spent time woodworking and playing cards.  Douglas was an excellent storyteller and liked to tell jokes.  Family time on vacations was especially meaningful for him.

Douglas was preceded in death by his father, Nestor John Luomanen; mother, Jenny Adela Lyttinen; and sisters, Dolores Johnson and Joann Luomanen.

Douglas is lovingly remembered by his wife, Judy; children: Mark Nelson, Lori (Steve) Giger, and Beth Shade; grandchildren: Ryan Giger, Morgan Jones, and Adriana Shade; his stepsister, Darlene (Klaus) Reese; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
