John Romitti

John L. Romitti, age 89, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on March 10, 2025. He was born on September 5, 1935, in a small house in Madrid, Iowa, to parents, Amerigo and Adalgisa (Medici) Romitti.

 

He graduated from Madrid High School in 1953. From 1957 to 1958, he served in the U.S. Army for one tour in Korea in the Infantry Unit. 

 

John met Judith A. Novak in 1965, and they were married on February 5, 1966. He worked for Firestone for six years while also attending Drake University for three years. John continued on to work for the John Deere Company in Ankeny, Iowa for over 30 years. Afterwards, he continued to work for Cub Foods in both Ames, Iowa and Oshkosh, Wisconsin, as well as Target in his “retirement” until age 83.

 

He won his first award in sports at age 70, placing 1st in his age division in a 5k race. John loved watching sports, his favorite teams were the Green Bay Packers and the St. Louis Cardinals.

Preceding him in death was his wife, Judith; parents, Amerigo and Adalgisa; and brother, Marion (Linda) Romitti.

 

He is survived by his three children, David Romitti, Teresa (William) Van Aacken and Jarrod Romitti; three grandchildren, Gabrielle (Christian) Dal Santo, Anthony (Katie) Van Aacken and Evan Van Aacken; great-grandchildren, Elliott Van Aacken and Jack Henry Dal Santo (due to arrive July 2025). 

 

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at St. Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church, 830 S. Westhaven Dr., Oshkosh, WI, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. with service to immediately follow. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Hayward, Wisconsin, next to his wife, Judith.
