William Lundahl

  Willard Dean Lundahl, 99, peacefully passed away on December 13, 2024 at home with his children by his side. A celebration of life was held Tuesday, December 17 at a.m. at St. Paul’s UCC in Madrid with visitation at 9:30 a.m. Luncheon will be served following the celebration with internment at Fairview Cemetery afterwards.

  

Willard was born April 22, 1925 at home on the family farm, rural Madrid, to Ralph and Irene (Palmquist) Lundahl. He graduated Luther High School in 1942 as president of his class. Willard participated in basketball, baseball and 4-H. During WWII he joined the Navy and was in V12 officer training at Bowling Green University and the University of Illinois. Willard returned from service to farm.

 

 Willard married the love of his life, Anne Douglass, at Maxwell Presbyterian Church on December 26, 1959. To this union two children were born, David Lundahl and Julie Eybers.

 

  Willard was active in Pork Producers, City State Bank Board of Directors, Boone County Fair Board, United Mutual Insurance Board, Farm Bureau Board, Madrid Lions Club, and American Legion. He was honored to go on the Freedom Flight in 2017. Willard served as the first moderator when St. Paul’s UCC was formed. He enjoyed reading and traveling.

 

  Left to cherish his memory are his children David (Jeri) Lundahl of Humeston and Julie (Lance) Eybers of Sioux City, three grandchildren, Andy (Rachel) Graham of Humeston, Hannah Eybers of Sioux City, and Aaron Eybers of Sloan, three great grandchildren, Alea, Nathan, and Ames Graham.

 

  Willard was preceded in death by his wife, Anne, parents Ralph and Irene, and sisters Betty Jansen and Bernice Bay.

 

 Willard will be remembered as a kind and gentle man who lived his faith. Special thanks to his devoted caregivers from Home Instead and UnityPoint Hospice.

 

  Memorials may be directed to St. Paul’s UCC in Madrid, or the Madrid Community Homes Assist Fund.
