Ruth Howard

Ruth Wynette Howard passed away at the age of 93 ½ on May 21, 2023.

Ruth was born September 19, 1929, in Story County, Iowa, to John and Sylvia (Hartley) Weaver. At four years old, she went to live with and was later adopted by her aunt and uncle, Doc and Ellen Spencer of Woodward.

Ruth loved to dance and was a member of the “Rainbow Girls.” She graduated as Valedictorian of her class. After graduation, she worked at the bank in Woodward and in 1949, she married Bob Howard in Madrid. They had two children; Robert George Jr. and Rachel Ann.

Ruth dedicated much of her life to her church. First the Christian Church which later merged with the Methodist Church, to become St. Paul’s United Church of Christ. She also helped her husband run his business and made a wonderful home for her family.

Left to love and remember Ruth are her children; Robert and Rachel, four grandchildren; Clint, Harmony, Glenna, Valerie, nine great grandchildren, one sister-in-law, and many friends, nieces, and nephews. Preceding Ruth in death are both sets of parents, in-laws, brothers; John, Dorman and Louie, sisters; Helen, Rita and Ellen and many good friends.

In Lieu of flowers any memorial contributions can be made to St. Paul’s United Church of Christ or The Madrid Home.
