Madrid Middle School students help remove trees at Dalander Prairie

Kelley Grothus' middle school students helped remove invasive trees at the Dalander Prairie on Tuesday, May 24. Eighth graders Katelyn Brandhorst & Sophia Cronk, seventh graders Will Atkinson, Juniper Englund, Hadley Mickle have been studying prairie ecosystems and how Iowa's landscape was before it was transformed to today's agriculture. This project was jointly sponsored by the Friends of the Trail. EB Lawlor, Lanny Lincoln and David Johnson assisted the students. Unfortunately the afternoon session was rained out, but there will be more opportunities for maintaining Madrid's prairie. / Photo submitted
