Kenneth Pies

Kenneth Pies, 94 of Madrid, IA, passed away on Tuesday, Mar. 29, 2022, at his home in Madrid.

Kenneth was born in rural Madrid, IA to Frank and Jessie (Grigsby) Pies. He received his education in Luther, IA where he graduated in 1945. He worked on the farm and at the Chevy garage in Madrid. Beginning in Oct. 1950, he proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War until his discharge in Oct. of 1952. Following his discharge, he returned to Madrid where he met Lois Kult and in 1954, they were married at St. John’s Catholic Church in Des Moines.

Kenneth and Lois made their home all their married life in Madrid where they farmed for over 65 years northeast of town.

Kenneth was a member of the Boone County Cattleman Association, Madrid VFW, and was a faithful attendee of St. Malachy’s Catholic Church

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Lois in 2018, and seven brothers and sisters.

Kenneth is survived by daughters, Denise (Steve) Hiveley of Madrid, IA, Carla Pies of Iowa City, IA, grandchildren, Kenneth (Courtney) Hiveley, Erin (Adam) Brown, six great-grandchildren, Aliyah, Gianna, Ella, Vivienne, Evan and Aiden, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Apr. 2, 2022, at St. Malachy’s Catholic Church in Madrid where there will be a visitation from 5-7 p.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery, rural Madrid.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Malachy’s Catholic Church, VFW Post 5060, or the Madrid Public Library.
