Judy Frideres

Judy Frideres, 75, of Madrid, Iowa passed away unexpectedly on December 15, 2022, in her home.

A family visitation will be held on December 21, 2022, at St. Malachy’s Church from 5:30-8:00 p.m. A Rosary will precede the visitation at 5 p.m. led by Judy’s prayer group.

A funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. on December 22, 2022, at St. Malachy’s Church in Madrid with luncheon and burial to follow at Mount Hope Cemetery.

Judy had a lifelong love of serving others and advocating for the disabled and marginalized. She followed in the footsteps of her mother in a career of nursing after graduating from ICCC in 1967. It is here she met the love of her life, Dwight, whom she married on September 21, 1968, in Claire, Iowa. Her nursing career included being an area nurse at Woodward State Hospital and serving as the Madrid School nurse. Judy was a tireless volunteer, beloved 4-H and Scout leader, and catechist. She had an eye for seeing the beauty in all things in need, whether it was a broken antique or a refugee.

She is survived by her husband, Dwight Frideres; her brother, David Thoma; her children, Matt and Tantha Frideres, Rachael and Kenneth Seymour, Mark and Meg Frideres, Bridget and Brent Bott, Charissa and Adam Flege; and by her 19 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jerome and Lois Thoma of Claire, Iowa; siblings Nancy, Oswald, Jerome, and Gerald; and grandsons, Nathaniel Seymour and Max Druhl.
