Judy Bennett

On Monday, December 5 Judy Bennett passed surrounded by family in her home and made it home to have dinner with her loving husband Steve

Judy was born February 1, 1943 in Fort Smith AR to Richard D. Gillis & Elsie Bento Gillis.

Richard had chosen a career in the Army and took his family whenever possible Judy was able to live in Japan in the early 50’s and later Germany getting to see all their beauty. After Richard retired they settled in Kelley, Iowa where she attended and graduated from Ballard high school. Judy then attended Faith Bible College and went on to work for Iowa State where she met

Steve E. Bennett and married on September 6, 1969 they settled in Des Moines Iowa where they started their family. In 1977 they moved to the Family Farm outside of Madrid Iowa with their three boys Mark, Clark, and Matthew.

Judy was a devout Christian and active member of the Evangelical Free Church in Madrid, Iowa. Judy helped lead youth ministry AWANA and sang in the Choir. Judy was also the longtime head of the funeral and luncheon committee making sure everyone was fed in the good times and the sad times.

After the boys went to school Judy started working for the Evangelical Free Church Home in Boone, Iowa in the Activity department she made sure those folks kept busy with crafts, games, movies and exercise. Once a month they would have a Farmers Breakfast giving those old farmers a taste of life back on the Farm.

Judy was an avid cook with her vast selection of cookbooks and rarely was there a Saturday that PBS cooking shows weren’t on all day. Judy loved to travel, getting away whenever possible and going all over the country including one of their favorite places, Hawaii with the beautiful weather and gorgeous plants. Judy loved her grandchild and loved spending time with them going shopping, going on vacation or just hanging out at the house she couldn’t get enough of them.

Judy was preceded in death by her Husband Stephen, parents, Richard D and Elsie Bento Gillis. She is survived by sons Mark (Melissa) of Kelley, IA, Clark of San Francisco, CA, and Matthew (Jana) of Madrid, IA and Brother Charles Gillis of Trenton, TN. Grandchildren, Evan Silva of Marion, IA, Adriana Morgan (Morgan) of Ames, IA, Elizabeth Silva of Adel, IA, Ashanti Bennett of Winona, MN, Blake Bennett of Madrid, IA and Tiffanie Grimm of Grimes, IA and brother in-law Brian Bennett of Des Moines Iowa

Judy is back in Steve's arms with no more oxygen hose, no more walker, no more doctor visits and no more pain.

Judy and Steve are in their forever home with Jesus in Heaven.
